A blown glass chandelier requires simple maintenance, but a few precautions can prevent many disappointments.
First and foremost, cut the power
Turn off and let the fixture cool down before touching it, especially if it has just been turned on.
Regular dusting
A soft duster or dry microfiber cloth is sufficient for routine maintenance. Gently wipe each piece of glass, especially on textured or fluted surfaces where dust accumulates in the reliefs.
For a more thorough cleaning
Use a cloth lightly dampened with warm water, without harsh detergents or ammonia-based products, which can tarnish gilded or brass finishes. Dry immediately with a dry cloth to avoid streaks.
In the case of hand-painted glass
On hand-painted pieces such as Iride or Ottavia, avoid any vigorous rubbing: gentle and regular dusting is sufficient, without ever trying to "make the color shine" itself.
Bulbs and sockets
Take advantage of cleaning to check that the bulbs are properly screwed in and that no wires are exposed. Always unplug the appliance before changing a bulb.
